INTRODUCTION
I'm no expert on character creation, but I do have a lot of experience of finding myself "stuck" when it comes to making characters. Personality traits? Fatal flaws? Faceclaims? History? It can be a bit daunting, and I know a lot of people find biography-writing to be the most boring process ever and just want to get to roleplaying as soon as they can. So... I'm putting this here for myself, if ever I am writing a bio and get stuck in the future, or for anyone else who may find themselves in the same spot! If anyone has anything they would like me to add to this guide, please let me know! So, here you go! A lot of this is based on my own personal process of coming up with ideas for characters. <3
NAMES
Names are a fairly important aspect to your character and they can say all sorts of things about what your character looks like and who they are. Considering the limitless combinations of prefixes and suffixes at your disposal, your cat could be named anything. Names usually reflect the appearance of the character, but they can also be named after a cat who died, or a trait that their parent wishes them to possess. Cats can also be named for their circumstances at birth, such as Stormkit and Oak-kit being named for the storm that occurred the night they were born and the oak their mother took shelter in. Names are fun to play with, and it's good to take into account how they sound when you say them out loud. If a name is a bit of a mouthful, like Nightningalemountain or Kingfisherchaser, you might want to try and avoid it, hehe. Taken and claimed names can be found here!
NOTE: These are not confirmed prefixes or suffixes for this site. This is just a compilation of potential ideas, and some may not be suitable for our setting on Fate. I will out any that are confirmed to be unacceptable here! If you are going to borrow any of my character creation ideas, please use your own discretion in deciding whether you think something is realistic or not. Thank you! If you aren't sure a name will be acceptable or not, ask on the Discord for second opinions. <3

GENDER
Most characters on Fate will fit into one of two categories. These are cisgender (term explained below!) males and females. While they make up the bulk of the character pool, you are perfectly allowed to make trans and nonbinary characters on Fate! You will first have to buy the alternate identity/orientation item here, though. If you are going to make a non-cisgender character, however, bear in mind that not all other characters will respect their identity and attitudes towards LGBT+ character vary Clan to Clan. Also if you are not trans or nonbinary yourself, please be respectful and make sure you know what you're doing when making a non-cisgender character.
COMMON TERMINOLOGY
AFAB. Assigned female at birth.
AMAB. Assigned male at birth.
Cisgender. This is a word that refers to anyone who identifies as what they were assigned at birth. It's just a way to reference anyone or any character who is "not trans or nonbinary".
Gender. Classifying a character as male, female, or other.
Gender expression. How one expresses oneself with regard to gender stereotypes. For example, a character can be feminine but still identify as male, or masculine and identify as female.
Genderfluid. Someone whose identity isn't wholly fixed. They might fluctuate between wanting to be referred to as male, or being referred to as female, or neither. An example of a genderfluid character can be seen in Butterfly!
Nonbinary. An umbrella term that refers to anyone that identifies as anything other than male or female. It can also be considered an identity in itself. A nonbinary person is typically referred to by singular they/them pronouns. (i.e They love their family.) Other, more unusual pronouns may be preferred, too. An example of a nonbinary character can be seen in Fogcloud!
Pronouns. Words used to refer to the identity of a character, such as he/him for males and she/her for females, etc.
Sex. What makes up a character's *cough* physiology. Used to make a distinction between cats who are capable of carrying kits or not, regardless of identity.
Transgender. Someone who identifies as the opposite gender to the one they were assigned at birth.
SEXUALITY
You don't really need to slap a label on your character right off the bat. You can play them for a bit, see who they romantically click with, and then make a decision. If you do want to have a non-straight character, you'll have to buy the alternate orientation item in the shop.
Note: Romantic attraction and sexual attraction are normally the same thing for most cats. Sometimes, that is not the case, hence why I included romantic attraction in this list. A character may be asexual biromantic, or heterosexual aromantic, go buck wild, it's your character. x'D
ORIENTATIONS
Androsexual. Attracted to males. Usually used in reference to nonbinary characters, as it describes their attraction preferences without being specific to gender.
Androromantic. See above.
Asexual. Do not experience sexual attraction to any gender. May still feel romantic attraction.
Aromantic. Do not experience romantic attraction to any gender. May still feel sexual attraction, however.
Bisexual. Attracted to both males and females.
Biromantic. See above.
Demisexual. Only feel attraction to other individuals when they know them very well.
Gynesexual. Attracted to females. Usually used in reference to nonbinary characters, as it describes their preferences without being specific to gender.
Gyneromantic. See above.
Heterosexual. Attracted to the opposite gender of themselves.
Heteroromantic. See above.
Homosexual. Attracted to the same gender as themselves.
Homoromantic. See above.
Pansexual. Can be attracted to anyone regardless of their gender identity.
Panromantic. See above.
Skoliosexual. Attracted to nonbinary characters, rather than being attracted to males or females.
Skolioromantic. See above.
AGE
As with most Warriors roleplays, age largely depends on rank. The typical ages for specific ranks in Clans and the Tribe can be found below. Loners can be any age you want, but remember that a kitten will not be able to survive without a caretaker and neither would a very old cat, most likely!
Kit. 0-6 moons. Apprentice. 6-18 moons. Warrior. 12-59 moons. Senior Warrior. 60-80 moons. Elder. 80-90 moons. Additional seasons may be bought in the shop.
Tribe Kit. 0-8 moons. To-be. 8-20 moons. Cave-guard/Prey-hunter. 16-80 moons. Elder. 80-90 moons. Same as above.
ALLEGIANCE FACTIONSSTONECLAN. Tend to place emphasis on belief in StarClan and respect for the warrior code. Descended from ancient SkyClan, these cats are built for jumping and climbing, well-adapted to their rocky mountain and hillside landscape. Cats here are highly bonded to their Clan, there is a strong sense of community values. Physically, cats here tend to be long-legged, with strong back legs for jumping and long tails for balance.
RAINCLAN. The fishers of the valley. RainClan have an appreciation for beauty and love to decorate their dens with feathers and stones. They appreciate beautiful cats, too, there tends to be a bit of a beauty standard. They prefer to pursue peace, but will stand their ground if provoked. RainClan cats tend to have shiny coats due to their diet of fish, and are excellent swimmers. Their fur is a consistency that repels water, and some kits have even been known to be born with webbed paws, making them better swimmers.
NIGHTCLAN. The cats of the dark. Extremely proud of their Clan, they tend to view their own cats as superior to all others. NightClan is a matriarchy, with she-cats being more respected and held to higher regard than toms. Apprentices tend to be intensively trained. NightClan views outsiders with great disdain, and are the least likely Clan to accept loners. There is a big emphasis on kindling a stronger generation to inherit the Clan, so pairings are normally strategic rather than sentimental. The goal is the breed the best of the best for the best. NightClan is the only Clan to be nocturnal, choosing to sleep during the day and perform most activities at night.
TREECLAN. TreeClan hold a strong moral code that is somewhat based on the laws of the Warrior code, but deviates from it also. They tend to make their own situational judgements and are willing to break the rules if that is what they view as right. They dwell in the thick deciduous forests, and are excellent at hunting in thick foliage. They prefer to avoid bloodshed, but are hardy fighters when called to it. They are respectful towards cats with disabilities and are known for always attempting to give a cat a chance at training to be a warrior first. Sentimental by nature, pairings are typically formed out of love.
LIGHTNINGCLAN. The fleet-footed cats of the moor, quick as lightning. These cats are unusual for their use of tunnelling skills as well as above-ground hunting. They are known to use speed to their advantage in battle, striking quickly and retreating before a full-scale retaliation can be mounted, so they can strike again with the element of surprise on their side. They tend to be somewhat paranoid when it comes to invasion, and have a "attack first, ask questions later" attitude towards intruders. They have a very open attitude towards outsiders and preach loyalty to the Clan above all else. They also tend to be extremely excepting of cats with alternate identities, known for having plenty of gay and bisexual members.
TRIBE OF FORGOTTEN WATERS. The Tribe are different from the Clans in more than just their ranking system. They have a friendly attitude towards other cats and don't understand why the Clans find themselves so often locked in war. They are an extremely tight-knit community split into two distinct groups, the Cave-guards and the Prey-hunters. Both groups are dedicated to providing for their Tribe, but resentment can sometimes foster within one group for the other. The Tribe is much smaller than the Clans, which results in a somewhat negative attitude towards couples that cannot produce kits. Polygamy is very common, it's not unusual to see a cat here with multiple mates.
LONERS. Anything goes with these cats. They can be from the valley, or beyond. They mostly reside in the mountains surrounding the Clan territories. They could be wanderers who move from place to place, struggling to sustain themselves. They could also have a dedicated den, or be part of a small group. However, life alone in the mountains can be brutal. There is often a "kill or be killed" attitude here, and with Demon lurking around, the life of a loner is frequently tinged with fear.
FACECLAIM
Now, there are a lot of different kinds of cats out there. I'll be keeping a collection of potential faceclaims here for future use! If you want to use one of these, please shoot me a DM so I can delete it.
